Fostering a Better Environment for Learning
As the new school year approaches, SM Supermalls has once again demonstrated its commitment to youth empowerment and community service by participating in the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela 2026. Under the theme "Bayanihan sa Paaralan: Nagkakaisa para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman," SM teams from across the country mobilized to ensure that students return to cleaner, safer, and more welcoming classrooms.
Through SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility arm of the company, volunteers worked alongside teachers, parents, and local partners to transform public schools into hubs of inspiration.
A Collective Effort of Bayanihan
The volunteer initiative went beyond simple cleaning. SM employees dedicated their time to comprehensive school maintenance tasks, ensuring that facilities are ready for the influx of students. Activities conducted across various partner schools included:
General Maintenance: Deep cleaning of classrooms, corridors, and campus grounds.
Facility Repairs: Repainting walls, repairing furniture, and performing minor carpentry work on doors, windows, and student desks.
Campus Improvement: Landscaping and maintenance of school gardens.
Community Support: Distribution of school supply donations to assist in the students' academic journey.
Why It Matters
For SM Supermalls, education is a cornerstone of nation-building. By actively participating in school preparation, the company aims to do more than just improve physical infrastructure.
"Our mall communities are woven into the neighborhoods around us. That is why supporting our schools is also part of our responsibility," an SM Supermalls representative noted. "When a child walks into a classroom that is clean, safe, and ready, it tells them that their community believes in them. Every broom sweep, every coat of paint, and every act of service matters."
