Empowering the Filipino Workforce
This past June 12, SM Supermalls and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) turned the celebration of Independence Day into a day of new beginnings. The annual Araw ng Kalayaan Job Fairs were held simultaneously across 20 SM malls, bringing together more than 21,000 job seekers and 800 employers from various industries.
The initiative proved to be a massive success, with over 1,900 applicants hired on the spot. This collaboration highlights the impact of bringing employment services directly into accessible community spaces.
A One-Stop Hub for Growth
The event moved beyond traditional recruitment. SM and its partners transformed the mall venues into comprehensive career hubs. Applicants did not just hunt for jobs. They accessed government services and participated in upskilling programs to prepare for a digital future.
The One-Stop Government Service Express allowed job seekers to process essential documents through agencies like SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, NBI, and PESO. This integration saved participants significant time and resources.
Skill Development and Digital Readiness
SM’s focus on workforce readiness was a major highlight. In partnership with TESDA, DICT, Jobstreet, and other stakeholders, the job fairs provided training in high-demand areas. Attendees received hands-on learning in AI prompting, cybersecurity, and digital literacy.
These sessions provided practical skills that extend beyond immediate employment. For many participants, the training opened doors to livelihood opportunities, allowing them to support their families through new crafts and digital skill sets.
Key Highlights of the Initiative

Why It Matters
The partnership between SM Supermalls and DOLE demonstrates how public and private sectors can effectively address unemployment. By decentralizing job fairs and moving them into malls, the organizers brought opportunities to the doorsteps of everyday Filipinos. This model empowers local communities and ensures that career growth is accessible to everyone, from fresh graduates to seasoned professionals.
For those who missed the June 12 event, SM Supermalls continues to host job fairs throughout the year. These events serve as a consistent platform for Filipinos to find the work that suits their skills and goals.
