47,500 Strong: ASP Angels Walk 2026 Breaks Records as Southeast Asia’s Largest Autism Advocacy Event

Advocacy reached a historic milestone this year as the Autism Society Philippines (ASP) Angels Walk for Autism 2026 officially became the largest gathering for the autism community in Southeast Asia.

In a massive show of solidarity, 47,500 advocates took to the streets simultaneously across 12 locations in the Philippines. From the main stage at the SM Mall of Asia Arena to regional hubs from Baguio to Davao, the event proved that the vision of an "Autism-OK Philippines" is no longer just an aspiration—it’s a nationwide movement.

A Landmark Celebration of Inclusion

Now spanning nearly two decades, the Angels Walk has evolved from a simple awareness march into a high-impact celebration of dignity and hope. This year’s theme, “Aumbitious. Aarangkada. Aangat,” challenged allies to move beyond "awareness" and toward transformative action.

Steven Tan
, President of SM Supermalls, highlighted the core mission: "Inclusion is about creating space, and more importantly, making people feel that they truly belong. At SM, we are honored to walk united with the autism community... until every person is seen, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive."

Key Highlights of Angels Walk 2026

  • Regional Reach: For the first time, the walk was held simultaneously in 12 locations, including SM City Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, Baguio, and Tuguegarao, ensuring that the message of inclusion reached every corner of the archipelago.

  • Specialized Training: The SM Mall of Asia Arena team underwent "Barrier-Free Tourism Kaya Natin" training by the DOT, ensuring the venue was tech-ready and sensory-friendly for participants on the spectrum.

  • Recognizing Leaders:

    • Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte received the Hans T. Sy Leadership Award for her lasting impact on autism welfare.

    • SM Book Nook was named ASP Autism Works Partner of the Year for providing inclusive learning spaces.

Building a "Mall for All"

SM Cares remains at the forefront of this journey, treating its malls not just as retail centers but as inclusive "third spaces." Through continuous employee volunteerism and specialized facility designs, SM ensures that individuals on the spectrum and their families feel accommodated and appreciated 365 days a year.

By integrating the autism community into the fabric of daily mall life, SM and ASP are dismantling barriers and proving that an inclusive society is a stronger, more vibrant one.
